The Legal Debate Society

The Legal Debate Society is an apolitical association for law students at the University of Copenhagen, and was founded in 1903. It is the largest association for law students in Denmark, and the overall purpose of The Legal Debate Society is to create an inspiring atmosphere at the Faculty of Law by organizing a wide range of academic as well as social events,. The events are coordinated and carried out by The Legal Debate Societys diverse and motivated board of directors, elected annually at the associations General Assembly by other law students.
Among the academic events The Legal Debate Society is organizing a range of panel discussions regarding relevant academic and society topics. Furthermore the association is organizing a wide range of excursions to law firms, ministeries, courts and other institutions and companies that are related to law students future current interests and future choice of jobs. Unfortunately not all the events will be held in english, but it is our hope that the international students will take part in as many as possible, in order to gain insight into the Danish society and the Danish legal system.

The Legal Debate Society hosts numerous social events including “Friday bar”, where you can enjoy cheap drinks in a social atmosphere with your fellow students. Furthermore we host the semester parties that take place at some of the most popular locations in Copenhagen, the International dinner, the Grand Galla, the soccer turnament “Culpa Cup”, etc.

It is our intention to enhance interaction between the international and Danish law students and thereby give the possibility of creating professional as well as social contacts among the international and Danish law students.

International dinner

Every semester The Legal Debate Society is organizing an international dinner event that is meant to create a fun and memorable night for the law students on exchange in Copenhagen as well as the Danish law students soon to be going on exchange abroad. This way, the exchange students will get a chance to mingle with each other and hopefully be able to offer each other support during their respective exchange periods.

The international students will get the opportunity to socialize with Danish students who are going on exchange in their country next semester. This way they will get a chance to share their experiences as an exchange student and to mingle with other international students, as well as getting some tips about Copenhagen from the Danish students.

The dinner is sponsored by IUNO.

“Friday bar”

The Legal Debate Society is organizing “Friday bars” every second week in the cantina at Søndre Campus from 4 p.m. to 01 a.m. The prices are reasonable. The “Friday Bars” popularity has risen a great deal and so has become an important part of social life for the law students. It is a great opportunity to mingle with other international students as well as the Danish law students. We are looking forward to seeing you!
